Up to now, global crisis do not have significant effect Batam’s Shipyard Industri, said Nada Faza Soraya, Chief of KADIN Batam. This is due to currently all on going project shall continue until 2013.
But she said also that Government should apply additional incentive and tax advantage stimulus to enhance the Indonesia’s shipyard industri growth.
Currently, Batam’s Shipyard industri is booming and have absorp many workers from all over Indonesia.
In my opinion, this is a very good asset for this Island, who once known very well for its Electronics Industry. Since the global crisis has hit many Electronic company in Batam, the government (both Local or Nationwide) should give their utmost support to make sure that this industry can grow even bigger in the future.

actually I have no idea what kind of business do shipyard have. Is it transportations or ship production? Maybe their survival related to the oil and gas situation across the world. Just guessing

yes, you are right. It is related with oil and gas industry. Since this is industry still booming around the world, then this industry has its ripple affect. CMIIW, I believe in Batam, mostly it is for the rig/ship manufacturing
