Batam Local government to provide 110 cattle for Riau Archipelago Hinterland

I read on this site that Batam local government shall provide 110 cattle to be provided to
Riau Archipelago Hinterland family as their economy development program.Each family that fit to the requirement, shall received 2 cows from the government. After 3 years, they shall need to give one calf back to the government. These calf then shall be give to the other family as the program continuation.

Batam Head of Marine Department, Fisheries, Agriculture and Forestry (Kepala Dinas Kelautan, Perikanan, Pertanian, dan Kehutanan – KP2K), Suhartini said that her department currently still review which area that shall received the program.

China’s Yuan to help relieve pressure on Indonesian’s Rupiah

I read on this site that Indonesia and China sign an agreement on Bilateral Currency Swap Arrangement (BCSA). The total value of the agreement is around Rp 175 Triliun (or equivalent to US$ 14.5 Billions. Indonesia and China signed this agreement to enhance the trading volume between the two countries. In Indonesia, the mechanism of the agreement shall be released by Indonesia Central Bank (Bank Indonesia-BI).

Anggito Abimanyu, Head of BI Fiscal Policy said on Monday that previously when the trader went to trade with Chinese company, they usually bought the US Dollar first before exhange it with Chinese’s Yuan. By the implementation of this agreement, he hope it shall released some pressure on Indonesian’s Rupiah.

BBK Shipyard and Offshore Industry goes to Jakarta

I read on Batam Pos Newspaper that many Shipyard companies and Offshore Industries located in Batam Bintan Karimun (BBK) shall attend an International expo called Indoshipyard and Offshore Expo 2009 in Jakarta. This expo shall exhibit in Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) from 4 until 7 Jun 2009. Aside from nationwide companies, this expo shall also be attended by foreign companies.

According to Syukur Sakka, the carataker of the expo, since BBK area is already appointed as a center of development for shipyard industry and offshore industry, this area has enormous potential for investment. He then expect that through this expo, the investment opportunities shall arise, or at least a business to business connection.

Indonesian Government to urge civil servants to use domestic products

I read on this site that Indonesian Government to urge its civil servants to use domestic products. This is step is taken by the government to enhance the performance of its national industries.

Based on statement from the director general of small and medium-sized industries, Fauzi Aziz, Administrative Reform Minister Taufik Effendi would soon issue a circular for distribution to all government offices on the requirement to use domestic products.

According to Azis, the circular shall be soon to released to all government ministries, the military, the police and state-owned companies by early next week. Fyi, the circular are made to follow up Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2009 on use of domestic products in procurement of government goods and services.

SBY:Indonesia economy shall still grow by 4.5% in 2009

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), said on Sunday that he still convince that Indonesian Economy shall still grow by 4.5% in 2009. The Indonesian president said his confidence during the press conference held in his home, Cikeas-Bogor.

I read on this site that SBY said the following :

“We will continue to adjust from month to month the realistic outlook (for growth) that we can achieve”

“So far, the government and parliament have no need to revise the target of 4.5 percent that we will achieve this year. We will take all steps. Whatever we can do, we will do.”

I read on Kompas Newspaper that Bernard Madoff, finally goes to jail. For those of you who do not know who Bernard Madoff is, you can refer to this site.

Madoff, considered by many economy expert, is the major source of the economy crisis that currently hit US and then the world. His previously run a “investment company, named Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC” that promises to give high yield of return of investment by using investmentment strategy that he called “split-strike conversion strategy”.

Batam 2009 – School for Free?

I read on this site about the news that the middle of 2009, the Batam local government shall free the operational cost for Elementary School and Junior High School as a realization of nationwide program of 9 years education. This is mentioned by Muslim Bidin, Batam’s Government Education Section Chief. He also mentioned that his department is now awaiting the official guide of implementation. Once he received it, the policy shall be implemented as soon.

Even so, this policy shall not affect all the public school in Batam. The public school that is already reach a good level of education such as Sekolah Sekolah Berstandar Internasional (SBI) and Sekolah Standar Nasional (SSN), still need to pay for operational cost. This to maintain the good level of education on the school.

Strauss-Kahn : World faces “great recession”

I read on this site a chilling news about the IMF Managing Director statement that world is now facing the great recession. IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn released the statement during a gathering of African finance ministers in the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam.

There is valid data backing up his statement, for instance stock markets everywhere hit their lowest levels in decades, China grappled with deflation, Germany was hit by an exports slump, the European Union meanwhile called on the IMF`s resources for struggling nations to be doubled, are just a few examples. One keynote is mentioned by investment guru Warren Buffett said the US economy has “fallen off a cliff”. So I believe the picture of economic this year is not very bright at all :(

Shall BBK FTZ regulation be released this week?

I read on Batam Pos newspaper that according to House Representatives (DPR), Harry Azhar, the Finance Minister regulation (Peraturan Menteri Keuangan-PMK) for Batam Bintan Karimum Free Trade Zone (BBK FTZ) is already affective starting this week. Harry Azhar, a politician who originated from the BBK region, said that he got the info from Anggito Abimanyu, a high ranking officer in Finance Ministry.

Another info also came from Batam’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). Abdullah Gosse, a well known KADIN figures from Riau archipelago said that BBK FTZ shall start effectively on 01 Apr 09. He said that event though the Finance minister regulation for BBK FTZ shall come out this week, the implementation shall effectively start on Apr 09.

I read on Kompas Newspaper that Indonesian company, Martha Tilaar, has won the ASEAN Business Award as Best of the Best in Innovative Industry in big company category. The announcement was made on 27 Feb 09 in Bangkok Thailand during ASEAN Business Award ceremony.

Martha Tilaar, an Indonesian company who specialized in producing health/beauty/aesthetic products using traditional herbs, is winning the award despite the heavy competitor from Singapore (Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd) and Thailand (True Corporation Public company Ltd) which is using more scientific approach.
