As you may know already, Batam shall be the host of international event, ASEAN Jazz Festival 2009 which shall took place in Ocarina Batam Center on 7-8 Aug 09. This is such a good movement from Indonesian government and also Batam local government to further increase international community awareness about Indonesian Jazz music culture and also to promote Indonesian program of Visit Indonesia 2009 and Batam Local government program of Visit Batam 2010.

According to ASEAN Jazz Festival official site, International artist who shall performed in this music fest is Lewis Pragasam trio (from Malaysia), Aya Yuson (from Philippines), Tze (from Singapore), and The Intersect 3+1 (Thailand). While for Indonesian artist, you can expect Ran, Notturno, Tohpati, Sketsa, Devian, Baim Trio, Imel Rosalin and Arina Mocca, Alien Loves Earth (Baron, Soulmates-Krisna’Ada band’- Budhi ‘Tiket’- Rindra ‘Padi’).

Here you can find artist performance schedule on that Jazz music event that I took from the official site.

Well, as I said in my earlier posting, Batam local government should make more of this kind of International events. As a important gateway to Indonesia, Batam can play its pivotal role even as gateway to Indonesia more by organizing other kind of international ceremonies, events, seminars or even exhibitions to attract foreign visitors. By doing this not only the standard tourism industries (Hotel, resorts, travel agent) which shall flourish, but also other business type such Exhibitions EO, Catering, Ticket Box, etc. From my point of view, if organized professionally, Batam can event compete with Bali or even Singapore in this sector. Hopefully, someone on government shall catch this “wild” idea :)

Btw, if you looking for Hotel accommodation which is near to this Jazz Festival occasion spot, you can refer to this and this post also.
