Gas prices have gone up while the temperature continues to plummet. Yes, regular unleaded spiked 8 cents yesterday and now, is a buck 19 point 9 a litre. Gasbuddy-dot-com reports the national average for a litre of regular is around $1.16 — up about three cents a litre from a month ago.
A windchill warning is once again in effect for much of Saskatchewan. In the Saskatoon area, which does not help with fuel usage when you have to warm up your vehicle, we will experience extreme windchills of -46 this morning and -32 this afternoon. For the second time this week, a windchill warning is in effect for most of central and southern Saskatchewan.
Cold temperatures in the minus thirties and winds of 15 to 20 km/h are producing extreme wind chill values of minus 40 to minus 50 across Saskatchewan. Wind will continue to vary and wind chill values will fluctuate, however wind chills are expected to remain near or below minus 40 for a few hours thismorning before temperatures moderate. At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes.
Oil is up 40-cents this morning, and is trading at $97.68 U-S a barrel. Wednesday, the markets got jumpy with news that some major oil companies were shutting down their Libyan production. Now analysts say it appears the situation in Libya shouldn’t mean a world oil supply shortage.

AAA reported today that the average price of gas in the Philadelphia region went to $3.25 a gallon overnight. That’s up 7 cents in the past week and 13 cents in the past month – to a new 28-month high.
So exactly how much pain are motorists feeling at the pump? For every 25-cent increase in prices at the pump, the average annual gasoline spending increases $333. To put this in perspective, the Philadelphia area gas average reached $3.00 a gallon back on Nov. 17, 2010. Today marks a 25-cent increase per gallon of gas and an additional $333 spent annually by motorists.
